I’ve been away too long, but I’m going to be back next week!
For the first two weeks of October I’ll be back in Abruzzo, based in Loreto Aprutino. I hope to do more exploring, visit new places and learn more about this wonderful region of Italy. Although the weather is turning from summer to autumn I think the temperature should still reach the 20s, which is perfectly fine for me. I hope to take photos of golden autumn colours but I might be a bit early for that.
My timing is a little bit off for a few reasons:
- I’m missing a friend’s birthday celebration
- I’ll just miss other friends who are leaving on the day I arrive
- It’ll be a bit early for autumn and a bit late for summer
- The olive harvest is a month away
But there are plenty of other good reasons for being there
- A good friend of mine from Scotland can come along too
- I overlap with a Swiss friend whom I haven’t seen for nearly a year
- I think the grape harvest will have started
- Oh, I expect to see some sunshine
On arrival my priority will probably be to get something to eat. But based on previous experience that will have to wait. Walking towards Piazza Garibaldi I expect I’ll bump into many friends from Loreto that will turn a 5 minute walk into one that takes at least an hour. I love it! Anyway it would be way too early to eat straight away.
I expect the first evening will work out like this:
- Arrive, unpack, clean-up
- Head to Bar Centrale for an aperitvo*
- Go to New Evo for dinner
- Then off to Rychot’s for ice-cream
Not a bad way to start it all off.
*If you want to learn more about Italian aperitivi then this post from Ms. Adventures in Italy is a really good place to start.

I hope you have a great time, just a note to warn you that both Bar Centrale and Rychots are closed for holidays until 4th october so you’ll have to wait for your ice cream! Weather is great and seems to be getting better, catch up with you soon.
