Although I have travelled around L’Aquila provence I have visited the city of L’Aquila only once, and that was for a very short weekend. But it was a great trip. The city is beautiful, surrounded by the Apennine Mountains, with the Gran Sasso d’Italia to the north-east, it is both the capital of the Abruzzo region and the seat of the province of L’Aquila. While I was there I really just spent the day wandering around, visiting the museums, the monuments and soaking up the atmosphere. Here are a few photos that I took, that will give you a feel for the place.
The highlight of the trip was stumbling across a concert in the Spanish Castle (Castello Spagnolo or Forte Spagnolo). It was a concert unlike any I had ever been to. It was a selection of classical and popular pieces with a comic twist. The concert was entitled “CONCERTO DI MUSICA DELLA MUSICOMIX ORCHESTRA” presented by Dosto & Yevski. If you understand Italian you can learn all about them here. Here is a YouTube clip. And here is another. If you ever get a chance, go see these guys.
