Dolce Far Niete (Sweet Idleness)

There are so many things to do and see in Abruzzo it is hard to list them all.  It is a region where the sea and the mountains are never too far away.  This means that the active visitor can spend many pleasant hours swimming, sailing, walking, mountain-biking, horse riding, climbing, skiing, snowboarding - to just touch on a few possibilities.  In fact, it is said that you can easily ski in the morning and swim in the afternoon!

But whether you are active or not, take time out from your busy schedule and consider sitting down and doing “nothing”.  Find a cafe in a familiar or un-familiar town, take a coffee, and watch and listen.

The cafe is the social hub of many towns in Abruzzo.  The place where locals come to read the daily papers, to discuss the latest political intrigues or just to watch the world go by.  You can learn a lot about the town, the locals and yourself, by engaging in this sweet idleness.

If you are lucky enough to be staying in a town on market day, then you can spend time very well indeed, by relaxing and watching the deals being struck at the various stalls.

You never know, you may make new friends during this very arduous activity.  :-)
